Top 5 Most Hated Melbourne Celebrities

Encore Magazine recently conducted a poll which surveyed almost 3000 members of the public, to determine which popular celebrities they liked or disliked. Their list of the top 10 most hated celebrities has been kicking around the net for a week or so now, but I thought it’d be interesting to filter down to the top 5 most hated celebrities born in Melbourne. Yes, it’s a bit negative, but we all love to hate at least a few of the celebrities on the list below…

5. Eddie McGuire

Not so much a media personality as an omnipresent virus infecting every available form of broadcasting in Melbourne, Eddie’s reign is inescapable. Although he’s kept himself out of controversy compared to other celebrities on this list, his ubiquity has no doubt rubbed many up the wrong way.

4. Shane Warne

I’m not even sure where to begin with Shane Warne’s roll-call of media missteps. That’s if the Shane Warne we see today is even human at all – these days he like what would happen if a cyborg made love to a range of Garnier products.

3. Germaine Greer

Precisely why does Germaine Greer cop so much flack? It’s a question which Crikey posed a few years ago, eliciting this response from Venise Alstergren:

I once had the misfortune to hear a 3AW morning talk -back fest when the subject of Germaine Greer was brought up. The sheer, unadulterated and obsessive hatred that came from the 85% of female audience on the ‘phone, was frightening. Obviously they hated her was because she’d chosen a lifestyle completely at variance with theirs.

2. Brendan Fevola

Ahh, Fevs… some see him as a giant man-child who doesn’t know what a tax return is, others the victim of addiction and depression. Despite Fevola keeping a relatively low profile this year (Dancing with the Stars appearance aside) and only playing football for local leagues, he still managed to make it onto this list at a high position. These days, he is reportedly studying criminology with the hopes of becoming a policeman, which sounds like a fine sitcom premise.

1. Matthew Newton

No need for an introduction here – Matthew Newton’s string of controversies and assault charges aren’t sending any work his way these days, and are keeping him firmly out of favour with the public. He continues to undergo treatment for bipolar disorder.
